Feedback from Ice on Workaway
Dustin and Mandy are both incredible people. Mandy was so appreciative of the workaways, letting us know that all help (no matter how big or small it may seem) is welcome. I really appreciated her spunk and optimism and also the way she encouraged us to be in touch with ourselves. I wish I had spent more time with Dustin, who was so giggly and thoughtful. When I told him I would be leaving before the weekend acroyoga session he pulled out a pad and we did acroyoga beside the campfire (with a spotter of course). Both Mandy and Dustin value people above all else and that is such a special thing.
The work was really enjoyable- I helped plant blueberry bushes, treated logs for the next building project, and chopped fire wood. I also spent time enjoying the yoga platform in the sun, reading by the fire, and making yummy teas! I chose to stay in my bed in my vehicle so I cant speak to the tent city situation they offer but it looked nice. The offgrid aspect is as advertised and I really enjoyed living off solar panel and water pumped up from the creek.
Highly recommend for people looking to truly live simply and in great company!!
This place will flourish and I cant wait to find my way back here!!"
What you will do
We are building an off grid homestead and nature retreat on 40 acres surrounded by the Talladega National Forest. Looking for select volunteers to work and live alongside us.
We're building Cabins, community kitchen (Valhalla), yoga platforms and an art studio. We are trail blazing, clearing land, gathering firewood, making community fire circles, practicing acroyoga and celebrating life.
Current main project is beginning construction of the Valhalla (communal kitchen / grand hall) with logs.
There is a variety of other work needed - cooking, dishes, general cleanup, firewood gathering, brush clearing, road maintenence and trail blazing, rock hauling, sign making, solar electrical and water system monitoring.
What we provide
Volunteers are provided food, a tent and bedding (mattress, pillow and a big super comfy sleeping bag). ACTUALLY Hot showers and communal kitchen shared.
We are 10 minutes from Talladega (Grocery / Department Stores, Hospital, Coffee Shop etc), Birmingham is 1 hour away, Atlanta is 2 hours away.
